Overview

The painting and decorating course is designed to prepare young people for entry into the construction industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions.

Who the course is for

This is a full time course developed for 16-18 year olds who want to build a career within the crafts of the construction industry.

Qualification Gained

Upon succesful completion of this course, you will receive a CSkills Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.

Course Content

General Core Units

  • Occupation Specific Units
  • Synoptic Practical Assignment
  • Multiple Choice Unit End Tests
  • Online Testing of Knowledge.

You will also be required to complete Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English, unless you  have already achieved GCSE grade 4 or above in maths and or English.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is based on the learner showing what they can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirements of the qualification.

Knowledge course work and testing with specialist practical Synoptic Assignments.

Progression Opportunities

Move onto the Diploma Level 2, which is a full time course or onto an apprenticeship when you will come back to college through the NVQ route.

Career Opportunities

This Level 1 qualification will prepare you to either progress to the Diploma Level 2 full time course or into a working apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Grade 2 in English and maths.

If English is not your first language, an English language test score of 5.0 or above is required.

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

If you are aged 18 when beginning the course, it is advised that you talk to our Student Services Team on 0191 200 4000 or by email enquiries@ncl-coll.ac.uk who will be able to explain the options available.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
