Why did you choose to study at Newcastle College?
I chose to study at the College mainly for the course as it was exactly what I was looking for and felt it would allow me to build on my existing knowledge and experience. I knew it would equip me with the fundamentals of business, HR and leadership and help me to develop both my personal and professional skills. I was also impressed by the College’s reputation for offering excellent student support.

What do you enjoy most about your course?
I really like that the modules you study link together so you can make sense of what you’re learning. I like the fact that you’re given the opportunity to undertake professional activities such as writing business plans so you’re able to put theory into practice in context.

What are the facilities like at the College?
The facilities are great, especially the library service. I’ve really made use of it during my time studying the College. The staff are really helpful and friendly and are always willing to help you however they can.

Do you like the fact assessment is not all based around exams?
It’s great that there are a variety of assessments as part of the course for example research projects, presentations, reports as well as exams. I prefer coursework over exams so it’s good that the course isn’t just assessed through exams.

What inspires you?
Making people smile and just being the best person I can be.

Has there been any guest lectures from industry?
Yes, we had a Business Engagement Week at the College which was really enjoyable. Local SME owners came onto campus and gave talks about their personal journeys and the challenges they’d faced in business. It was really interesting to hear first-hand from business owners and it was a good opportunity to network and make valuable contacts.

How would you describe the staff at the College?
I can’t speak highly enough about the staff at the College, they’re incredible. They’ve been persistent supporters of mine and have really been there for me during my studies. They genuinely care and want you to do well and help you to succeed in any way they can. The staff are really approachable and easy to get in touch with and go the extra mile to make sure you’re on the right path. They respect you and your opinions and treat you like an adult which I really appreciate.

Does the fact they’re industry experienced make a difference?
The fact the tutors have worked in industry makes a big difference. They ensure you study course content that is relevant to industry helping you to develop the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for. They’re able to offer real-life examples and the issues they faced and how they overcame them. The lectures and seminars are stimulating and really get you to challenge your thinking which helped me with my development.

What has been your highlight of studying at Newcastle College?
The highlight for me has been the support from staff, they’ve really shaped my experience and made it a really positive one, and for that I’m grateful.

How do you think your degree has prepared you for employment?
It’s given me necessary industry knowledge and helped me to development professional skills that are needed in the business sector. It’s enabled me to fine-tune my research skills and think and act in a more strategic way. It’s opened up aspects of business for example mentoring, training and the coaching of people that I wasn’t fully aware of and helped me to identify specific areas I’m interested in pursuing.

What are your plans after your course?
I’m looking at the Masters programmes at the College as I’m really keen to progress here and develop further. I’m also considering business graduate training schemes.

Any words of advice for any student considering studying at Newcastle College?
Do it! It’ll be the best decision you make. Seize every opportunity you’re offered and you never know where it may lead you.
