Engineering case study

Morgan Lowrie – BEng (Hons) Electrical Electronic Engineering (Top-Up)

Morgan was a BEng (Hons) Electrical Electronic Engineering student. Here, he tells us why she chose to study at Newcastle College University Centre.

Why did you choose to study at Newcastle College?
I came to an open event which I found really useful. I spoke to a course tutor who told me about the course, what I’d study and the level of support I’d receive. I liked the fact I’d be learning in smaller class sizes meaning I’d get to know my classmates and tutors well.

What did you enjoy most about your course?
I really enjoyed being taught by knowledgeable course tutors who’d worked in the industry so they could offer invaluable advice and guidance. I also got to work on a subsea Christmas tree which was on site at the College which was amazing as it meant I got real hands-on experience. When it came to applying for jobs employers were really impressed by this.

How would you describe the staff at the College?
The staff were brilliant. They were really supportive, approachable and above all knowledgeable which as a student was great. They were friendly and always there if I needed them which was reassuring.

What’s Newcastle like as a student city?
Newcastle is a great student city. It’s got everything you could possible want.

How do you think your degree set you up for employment?
It massively prepared me for the demands of the industry. It helped me to develop a whole range of professional skills such as time management, project management and communication skills, ready for the workplace.

Any words of advice for any student considering studying at Newcastle College?
Do it, the quality of teaching is brilliant along with the tutor support. I would recommend for anyone to study a degree at the College.

Sum up your time at the College in three words
Worthwhile, positive, rewarding.
