Interior and Spatial Design Case Study

Dana Diab - FdA Interior and Spatial Design

Dana is a 1st year FdA Interior and Spatial Design student. Here, she tells us why she chose to study at Newcastle College University Centre.

Why did you choose to study at Newcastle College?
I chose to study at Newcastle College after my friend’s recommendation. I have a number of friends who have studied all different subjects at the College and they all recommended it. After hearing great things, I looked online at the courses and found more information. The College’s location is great; it’s so close to everything and easy to get to. Because of its location, you are never bored there is always lots of things to do and see when you have a break.

Why did you choose the course?
I chose my course interior and spatial design because I enjoy designing things. You can take ideas and influences and create something beautiful. That’s what caught my attention with this course. When I was looking at which course to study this one really stood out for me, designing and making things has always been my passion and I am so glad I am able to study this passion more.

What are the facilities like at the College?
The facilities at the College are good. I spend a lot of time in the library where it has loads of resources and it’s quiet and calm. I study in the Mandela building and they have everything you need to design such as Macs and Adobe software and materials to create 3D models. There are nice areas on campus as a Higher Education student you can go to on your break or for study groups. The HE Hub is one of my favourites, it’s newly refurbished and you can get food and drink there too.

What inspires you?
Hand made things. I can find inspiration in a lot of things. I like old building and the idea of reusing things. Newcastle is such a great city that is full of inspiration. The buildings, bridges and walls in the city continuously offer inspiration.

What has been your highlight of studying at Newcastle College?
From the first day at the College it has felt like a family. Everyone is there for each other and everyone treats each other fairly. This has been my highlight so far.
