Fast track your way into the railway industry with this 6 week full-time condensed course, learning in our specialist Rail and Civil Engineering Academy.

The government has planned £37.5 billion investment over the next five years in the rail industry and this programme offers you a thorough grounding in Railway Engineering giving you the knowledge and practical applications to progress onto Level 3 programme in Railway Engineering or into employment.

Whilst studying this course, we will put you in direct contact with employers and have had previous students go onto work with companies such as Vital, McGinley, SW Global, Ganymede, ISS and SPL.

You will also be provided with full PPE at no cost to yourself! This includes hi vis trousers and jacket, hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe capped boots and gloves so that you are ready to go straight into employment. You will also receive free Network Rail Medical and Drug & Alcohol Testing which is required in the industry.

This qualification gives you the opportunity to learn new rail engineering skills to support you in your career as a rail engineer. You will be trained on Robel Tamper, Hand Trolley, Iron Men, Impact Wrench and Hand Tools. From ensuring tracks are in good condition, to laying the track and maintaining communication links between stations and trains, there are many opportunities for the technically minded in this qualification.

Daily tasks:

  • Organises and establishes control systems to monitor operational efficiency and performance of materials and systems.
  • Ensures that equipment, operation and maintenance comply with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Designs mechanical equipment, such as steam, internal combustion and other non-electrical motors for railway locomotives, road vehicles, aeroplanes and other machinery.
