Overview

This qualification is for those wanting to enter the Plumbing Industry. The course gives you the opportunity to develop some essential core skills and knowledge.

Who the course is for

This course is designed for new entrants into the Plumbing and Heating Industry.

The course is intended for those individuals who have not yet gained employment in the industry but, wish to develop their skills.

Qualification Gained

If you successfully complete all elements of the programme you will gain a City & Guilds Diploma Level 1 in Plumbing Studies.

Course Content

You will study:

  • Installation
  • Repair and Maintenance of Plumbing Systems above ground
  • Drainage
  • Pipework (copper, plastic, low carbon steel).
  • Plumbing Science.

There are also an additional units that must be achieved based around Building Service Engineering, these are:

  • Structure of the Construction Industry,
  • Environmental and Sustainability Measures in Domestic Dwellings 
  • Site Preparation in the Construction Industry.

 

Learning Methods

You will learn through practical demonstrations, lectures and theory lessons.

Assessment Methods

Learners will be expected to demonstrate safe level of practical competence together with understanding of underpinning knowledge.

This will be done through both online exams and assessment based assignments.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion of the course you will have the opportunity to progress onto either our Level 2 & 3 Plumbing or Electrical Installation qualifications.

Career Opportunities

Learners may progress onto an apprenticeship in plumbing.

Entry Requirements

GCSE grades 2-9 In English and maths.

If English is not your first language you will require a score of 5.0 in the English Test.

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
