More about the course

This is an exciting 18 week course where you will hone your skills by responding to a brief and create your own ceramic piece. The course will take you through the creative process of researching, designing, testing, glazing, making, presenting, and evaluating your work. In addition to practical based teaching, you will be encouraged to research ceramicists and artists to inspire your creative responses to the brief and gain knowledge of financing software and making costs.

By the end of the course, you will have created a refined final piece which will be the result of excellent planning, testing and professionally documented for your portfolio.

You will learn in our state-of-the-art Ceramics studio in the Mandela building which is one of the largest ceramics studios in the Northeast of England and boasts three separate rooms for hand building, throwing and glazing. Excellent resources such as a gas and electric kiln; two spray booths in the glaze room; a large selection of ready mixed glazes as well as extensive raw materials for glaze mixing will enable you to create desired finishes.
