Airline and Airport Management - BA (Hons) [Top-Up] [Full-Time]

Overview

This course is aimed at students who have successfully completed a Foundation Degree (or equivalent) and managers or aspiring managers within the airline and airport industry. The course is designed to develop your management and leadership skills to enable you to become a more efficient and effective manager within the workplace.

This top up degree is delivered at the main Rye Hill Campus making use of the dedicated HE study spaces and well stocked Learning Resource Centre. Teaching also takes place at Newcastle College's world class purpose built Aviation Academy at Newcastle International Airport which houses two Jet Provost aircraft, a fuselage based classroom, a BAE Jetstream 31 aircraft and a fully functioning Boeing 737 aircraft.

You will be taught by staff who have extensive experience of airport operations, cabin crew operations, cabin crew training, aviation organisation management and academic research. You will be encouraged to apply for professional accreditation by staff who are active in both local and national networks.

Who the course is for

The course is aimed at students who have achieved a Foundation Degree Airline and Airport Management (or equivalent) and to those currently employed within an airline or airport who can demonstrate substantial managerial experience and who would like to develop their managerial skills and knowledge with a view to future promotion.

Qualification Gained

If you successfully complete the Top-Up degree you will be awarded a BA (Hons) in Airline and Airport Management by NCG.

Learning Methods

You will learn in a variety of ways including via e-learning, lectures and seminars. You will benefit from site visits to national and international airports and guest speakers from a range of airlines will share experiences and knowledge during visits.

You will also participate in group work and self-directed study. You will be given opportunities to present group work to your peers developing skills in public speaking and increasing self-confidence.

The employers we work with include: Newcastle International Airport, Swissport, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, Jet2 and Samson Aviation.

 

Assessment Methods

A range of assessment methods will be employed including case studies, individual and group reports, an academic poster and a 10,000 word dissertation which may be based on secondary or primary research.

Progression Opportunities

Students who successfully complete the BA (Hons) in Airline & Airport Management course can progress on to a MA or MBA programme.

Career Opportunities

On completion of this course you'll be equipped for management and trainee management positions within the Airline and Airport Sector.
You will also be able to apply for graduate schemes within wider travel or management sectors.
 

Entry Requirements

A relevant Foundation Degree or the Level 5 equivalent (HND, Diploma in Higher Education).
Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade C in GCSE Maths & English Language or the Level 2 equivalents.

Mature students (age 21) will be considered only on the basis of relevant industry experience.
Applicants for whom English Language is not their first language are expected to achieve a minimum IELTS Score of 6.0 or the nationally recognised equivalent.

A satisfactory DBS clearance will be required to undertake this programme and must be obtained within the first term of enrolment.
