Overview

This qualification is ideal for those that want to work in a Business environment whether it is working in a large corporate company or a small independent Business.

This qualification aims to provide learners with:

  • an understanding of the essential skills required to work successfully in a business environment
  • the skills required to solve problems in a business environment
  • an understanding of business culture and responsibilities
  • the ability to successfully communicate and work with others in a business environment
  • the opportunity to develop the skills required to manage and improve their own performance in a business environment.

Who the course is for

The course is aimed at anyone with a passion to be involved in  Business. 

You do not need any previous experience or knowledge in this area, simply be motivated with the desire to achieve.

Applications are welcome from 16-19 years.
 

Qualification Gained

On succesful completion of this course you will gain a NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Skills for Business.

Course Content

The course is delivered by staff who are highly experienced in the Business sector and will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to enter into the world of work and equip you for the challenges ahead.

People who work in the Business sector need a range of practical and academic skills. We will assist you to develop these skills and knowledge so that you can progress to the career of your choice in the future.

You will learn about:

  • Running business projects
  • Business Communication
  • Customer Service
  • Business Documentation
  • Innovation in a business environment
  • Solve problems in a business environment

You will develop skills in:

  • Event Management
  • Customer service
  • Financial planning
  • Marketing and how to work with others
  • Using the internet
  • Communicating effectively in the workplace
  • Writing for different business purposes
     

You will practice these skills through a variety of "hands on" tasks such as running your own business event and setting up mobile shops. We have a new purpose built retail unit and you will be expected to contribute to the running of this.

You will also have the opportunity to develop skills within the community through fund raising events and volunteering opportunities.

Maths and English form part of every programme of study for students who have yet to secure a GCSE grade C or above, in these subjects.

This will enhance job and career opportunities, and where appropriate, progression to higher education. Students who undertake GCSE English or Maths will be required to purchase a revision guide and workbook (£5.00), and those undertaking Maths will also be required to purchase a scientific calculator (about £7.00).

These can be purchased from the college or from any good stationers.

Learning Methods

The information will be delivered through a combination of formal taught sessions and simulated activities. You will be expected to participate in group work and individual tasks.

There will be a range of enrichment activities such as experience workshops, micro business surgeries and networking events that are attended by a wide range of local and national businesses, master classes from top entrepreneurs and the chance to work on real life business challenges set by companies.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through written work, observations and simulated tasks within class as well as the projects you participate in outside of the classroom environment.

There are no examinations.

Progression Opportunities

You can progress onto a business diploma or onto employment within a business environment dependent on outcome and English / maths grades.

Career Opportunities

You can apply to work within any public or private Business sector such as office work, shop work, secretarial work, personal assistant or administration within environments such as hotels, banks, hospitals.
 

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSE’s at Grade D or above.  This must include either English or Maths at Grade D or above.

If English is not your first language, an English language test score of 5.0 or above is required.

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
