Overview

This Programme of Study covers the essential technical needs for today's Automotive Retail Repair Industry.

It provides essential knowledge for potential service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of retail repair workshops, dealerships and maintenance depots.

Qualification Gained

On successful completion of their Programme of Study candidates will have achieved the following qualification:

IMI Level 2 Diploma in automotive maintenance and repair..

Course Content

This is a Programme of Study which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:

Light Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance
Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Engines, Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems
Operating Principles and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems.
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a Retail Repair Establishment.
 

Learning Methods

You will undertake a mixture of workshop practical activities and classroom technology sessions.
 

Assessment Methods

The Assessment for this Award is a combination of practical assessments and a multiple choice on line examination.
 

Progression Opportunities

By completing this qualification, candidates could be considered for entry to a Level 3 Maintenance and Repair Qualification.


 

Career Opportunities

Successful canditates could find employment in the automotive industry.
 

Entry Requirements

Candidates will be expected to be in possession of a level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. or Level 1 Diploma in Transport Maintenance - Light Vehicle qualifications.

If English is not you first  language, candidates will need an English language test score of 5.5 or above.

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
