If you choose Hair and Beauty at Newcastle College, you'll learn from qualified practitioners and develop your skills using industry-standard products and tools. 

We focus on practical experience and you'll practice your techniques on real paying clients in our commercial hair and beauty salon, The Retreat.

You may also undertake a work placement in a local salon or barber and many of our students even have the opportunity to compete in national competitions.

Whether you want to be a make-up artist, hairdresser or go into beauty therapy or special fx, we have a course to help you get there.

Beauty Therapy and Make-Up - Level 1

Daily tasks:

  • Ensures custody of all cash receipts and organises regular stock checks.
  • Recruits, supervises and trains staff.
  • Determines financial, staffing, material and other short- and long-term needs.
  • Advises on the facilities available and promotes publicity in relation to shows, games, races, new theme parks, etc..
  • Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in recreational activities and arranges exhibitions, theatrical productions, concerts, demonstrations etc..
  • Ensures that facilities are kept clean and in good condition and that appropriate health and safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Organises timetable of activities/schedule of programmes.
