More about the course
Do you want to make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people? Whether you're interested in healthcare, children's services or community support, this T Level could be the perfect first step towards a rewarding career.
On this two-year course, equivalent to three A Levels, you will develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to support children and young people across a range of health and care settings. Learning from industry-experienced tutors, you will study topics including child development, safeguarding, person-centred care, communication, anatomy and physiology, and supporting physical and mental health.
You will benefit from practical learning and realistic healthcare simulations, helping you build confidence in a professional environment. Visiting professionals from the NHS and wider health and care sector will also enhance your learning with valuable industry insight.
You will also undertake an employer industry placement for a minimum of 45 days throughout your course, giving you the opportunity to put your new skills into practice and gain real-world experience supporting children and young people.

Olivia Batey
Level 3 T-Level in Health (Supporting the Mental Health Team)"For my T-Level placement, I work at a primary school in Newcastle, where I support students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND). I work with two groups: a younger class of pupils aged five to eight years old, and an older class of eight to twelve year olds. In my day to day, I get a timetable and set of activities to cover; because the pupils can have high or complex needs, they can struggle to do set lessons, so I focus on more on doing sensory activities with them or giving them one-to-one support with basic skills like reading or writing, or taking them into the sensory room on site to help them regulate themselves if they ever get overstimulated."

Level 3 T-Level in Health (Supporting the Adult Nursing Team)“I’m off to Edinburgh Napier University to study Biomedical Science, and then I plan to do a Master's in Medical Anthropology before going to medical school to get a Doctorate, and eventually be a Forensic Pathologist. Studying the T-Level has really prepared me for the route I want to go down. I spent my placement at the QE Hospital in Gateshead and while it was a little daunting at first to think of all the placement hours required, it has prepared me so well for university and my future career, more than any other route I could have chosen. I’d definitely recommend Newcastle College and the T-Level to anyone. The staff here are fantastic, especially Tyler Crow who is the best teacher I’ve ever had!”

Level 3 T-Level in Health (Supporting the Adult Nursing Team)The course is a lot more practical and it’s not all exams, you get to experience something you wouldn’t with A Levels or in school. The course makes you more prepared for the workplace and prepares you for working with patients.
Ellie Wilson
Level 3 T-Level in Health (Supporting the Adult Nursing Team)“I always wanted to work with children, but I chose the T-Level to get a wide range of experience. I spent my placement in care homes, rehab centres and then in primary schools. I would recommend it to anyone, I feel like I’ve gained so much more experience than I would have studying A Levels. It was also great to have such experienced teachers. Their experience of industry was a huge help to me, I learned a lot from them. I’m now going to Northumbria University to study Children’s Nursing.”

Level 3 Health and Social CareWhen you study with Newcastle College, you give yourself the best opportunity you can to develop new skills, make new friends, and learn from tutors with so much experience in industry that everything you learn can be used straight away when you launch your career. The tutors on my course are the best teachers I’ve ever had, they’ve been through it all and are always sharing their experience with us. You’ll get to learn in fantastic facilities, including simulation suites better than the ones at Newcastle University, and you’ll benefit from learning in a really safe, supportive environment so you can learn the skills you’ll need for the front lines of industry.
Imogen Meakin
Level 3 Health and Social Care"A few of my tutors were practising clinical nurses. They're all really understanding of how everyone is different, so they're comfortable with adapting how they teach sometimes to make sure that everyone in my class gets the most out of lessons. Thanks to their support and their past experience in the healthcare industry, when I go into the workplace I'll have real stories to help contextualise the importance of everything I learn."
Yussy George
Level 3 - Health and CareI've finished my Level 3 in Health and Social Care. I enjoyed my experience at college and want continue my degree here rather than at another uni.
Laura Proudlock
Curriculum Leader - Health"The best thing about my role is seeing the changes in students. From when they start to the end of each academic year. Their academic progress and development as well as their personal growth. I like that I can inspire confidence and support students becoming the person they want to be."
Morlai Kargbo
Health and Social Care Level 3, plus the Language of Maths, Multiply"When I first came to the college to apply to study Health and Social Care, the multiply courses were recommended to me to help with my basic understanding of maths. I’m now doing a level 3 in Health and Social Care as well as functional skills in Maths, and a GCSE in English. I’ve also just been accepted onto a Level 4 in Health and Social Care, so my dream of becoming a social worker is getting closer."
