Caring for Children - Level 2

• Progression from foundation in childcare

and

• Both Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Level 2 Functional Skills in maths (or equivalent)

or

• 4 GCSE’s at grade 2 and above including English and maths.

If you complete this course successfully you will receive a NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People

Depending on availability of childcare settings, you will work with children under 6 years to develop your skills and put into action the information you have studied in college. You will be able to carry out activities such as story telling, playing games, creative activities around paint, model making, and practice your communication skills and interactions.

In the past we have taken students on trips such as going to the Pantomime (linked to health and safety risk assessments and literacy) the beach (learning in the environment) and The Discovery Museum (ways to support understanding of the past).

You may be given the opportunity to complete work experience towards the end of the course.

English is embedded throughout the programme. You will develop your English skills through creative writing, reading stories to children and developing communication skills in placement. Your maths skills will be enhanced when you learn to use accurate measurements for bottle feeds, making juice for children and making sure adult to child ratios are correct.

If you complete this programme successfully you could choose to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma Early Years Practitioner.

If you are aged 16-18 when you begin your course you are likely to be eligible for free tuition. Detailed information can be found within the financial support section.

You will be required to pay money towards equipment and trips, however this may be paid for you if you qualify for a bursary.
