Ofsted Report 2012: Literacy Score

A stand-out result in the Ofsted Report for Newcastle College in 2012 was its college-based literacy.

With over 5,000 learners, around three fifths of learners were on full-time courses, with most enrolments being on functional skills courses in English.

Learners achieve outstandingly well, with a high success rate that is significantly above the national average.
Learners develop very good literacy and personal skills, with students aged between 16 and 18 making outstanding progress improving their English skills.
The quality of provision is outstanding. Teachers have very high expectations of their learners.
Teachers have expert knowledge and understanding of their learners’ needs and inspire them to achieve.
Teachers use a good range of different assessment strategies to check and confirm learning.
Partnerships are very productive.
