Two former Newcastle College students came first and second in the North East heat of the National Delifresh Young Chef of the Year competition recently.
Held at Newcastle College on Wednesday 11 October, this competition was created by National food service supplier Delifresh to showcase young talent. Open to all trainee and professional chefs under the age of 25, the dishes are judged by an expert judging panel made up of industry legends.
From the eighteen chefs selected for the regional heats, Newcastle College graduates Philip Ho and Kian Marshall are through to the final, which is due to be held at The Cookery School at The Grand York next month.
The winner of the final will get the opportunity to work alongside Michelin-starred chef Adam Smith (Woven – Ascot) and enjoy a luxury 3-day trip to France including a tour of the renowned Rungis International Market.
Both Philip and Kian graduated from the FdA in Culinary Arts last year, 2022. Philip is now a chef at SIX at the Baltic, and Kian is now a chef at St Marys Inn.
