Entry to the Uniformed Public Services - Level 3

You will be invited to meet the teaching team to make sure that Entry to the Uniformed Public Services is the right course to help you achieve your ambitions. 

Please note that progression from year 1 to year 2 is not automatic. You will need to successfully pass the qualification, have attendance above 93% for each component of your programme, and you conduct during the academic year must be in line with Newcastle College's Student Code of Conduct.

This is a two-year course. You will achieve a qualification after successful completion of each year.

In year one, you will complete a Level 3 Certificate for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services.

In year two, you will complete a Level 3 NCFE Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services

Throughout your course, you’ll get the chance to experience what it’s really like to work in the uniformed services.

You’ll meet and learn from people already working in the sector, including paramedics, ambulance staff, firefighters and military personnel.

You’ll also take part in practical tasks based on real situations set by our industry partners. These activities help you experience the kind of fast thinking, teamwork and communication that all uniformed services rely on.

You will also complete projects that mirror the challenges you might face in the military, fire service or ambulance service.

The ability to accurately record and communicate information is essential in Uniformed Public Services and we will help you to develop your language skills to improve your ability.

We'll also develop your math skills through fun activities, where you will be tasked to solve problems by devising strategies. You will gain a better understanding of things like orientation, space, time and speed.

Military Pathway

Subject to passing military entrance tests and a medical, this course will prepare you for a range of roles within the armed forces. 

Fire Service Pathway

You could progress onto a Community Safety Apprenticeship or Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship

Ambulance Pathway

You could progress onto Apprenticeship routes such as Health Advisor, Ambulance Support Practitioner and Ambulance Care Assistant.

Many of our previous students have successfully moved into careers within the Uniformed Public Services, and you could follow the same path. This course also carries a maximum of 112 UCAS points, which means you could choose to progress onto a related degree if university is the right next step for you.
