Sport - Level 1

• 3 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and maths

If you achieve:

• GCSE grade 3 in English or maths

AND

• GCSE grade 1 in English or maths

AND

• Two other GCSEs at grade 2 or above

You can still study this course, but you will need to complete Entry Level 3 and Level 1 Functional Skills alongside it.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Level 1 NCFE Diploma in Occupational Studies for the Workplace

We are lucky to work closely with Newcastle United Foundation and Newcastle Eagles and our students have the opportunity to visit their grounds and spend time learning from their coaches.

We also work with NE Youth, offering students the opportunity to get involved in social action projects, doing anything from fundraising for a charity to organising a sports day for a local community group.

We will support you to develop your English and maths skills as part of your course and in the context of your practical work. Maths will be embedded into your work through use of time, distance and speed in sports drills. You will also build on your language skills, communicating fitness plans and coaching sessions.

After completing this course successfully, you can progress onto a Level 2 in Sport and Protective Services at Newcastle College. 

There are also opportunities to apply for an apprenticeship as a Level 2 Fitness Instructor, Leisure Team Member or Community Activator.
