If you are passionate about the ever-growing beauty and spa industry, then this course is for you. The course has been designed to develop technical and theoretical skills required by industry. You’ll gain work experience in our innovative college medi spa, The Retreat. You will work with recognised professional brands such as Dermaquest, Spa Find and Agera Chemical Peels, with access to specialist equipment such as Energist VPL, Microdermabrasion and Caci machines.

Who the course is for

This program is suitable for students who have completed a level 3 qualification) in beauty therapy (including face and body electrical training) and are considering a career within the aesthetic or medi-spa environment. This course is also suitable for professionals who have been in industry for a number of years and are wanting to up-skill or gain a higher qualification to support them within their careers.


Qualification Gained

If you successfully complete the course you will graduate with a Foundation Degree (FdA) in Aesthetic Practice and Spa Management, awarded by NCG.

Learning Methods

Your study experience will include a variety of methods including lectures, group work, seminars, practical sessions and case studies.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is carried out through client case-studies, presentations, exams, assignments, reports and recorded discussions.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion you may decide to progress onto our one-year BA (Hons) Advanced Skin Techniques (Top-Up) degree or one-year BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-Up) degree.

Career Opportunities

The course will help you develop the skills to pursue a range of roles at managerial level. Previous graduates have secured employment with Steiner Cruise Liners, Sk:n, Silver Link Clinics, Transform, Ramside Hall, Seaham Hall and Slaley Hall. Many students have also set up their own businesses based on their experience developed throughout the modules.

Entry Requirements

• A recognized L3 Beauty Therapy qualification with the inclusion of Body and Facial Electrical treatments.
• A NVQ or BTEC National Diploma or equivalent with Facial and Body Electricals
• Satisfactory Reference
• Reasonable IT skills
• A good level of English language and writing skills.
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above.
Additional Requirements
• students must purchase the university standard uniform and skin preparation kit at the start of the academic year.
• students must wear salon uniform- indoor footwear as appropriate.
• nails must be short and without polish
• students must have full dexterity and be able to stand and lean for long periods of time (learners with difficulties will be assessed on an individual basis).
• a good standard of personal hygiene and appearance is essential, as well as the ability to communicate well and to work effectively with others.
• candidates must be willing to carry out treatments on each other and receive treatments.
• no jewellery or facial piercings may be worn in the salon environment.
• must be able to provide paying clients for practical assessments.
• 100% attendance is expected, 95% is required.

Course Costs

Higher Education courses

Newcastle College’s tuition fee for full-time undergraduate UK and EU students studying a degree starting in 2019 is £9,000 per year. Students can choose to pay their tuition fees upfront or take out a Tuition Fee Loan from the Student Loans Company, which currently defers payment until individuals earn over £25,000 per year after graduation.
