This course offers an excellent introduction to a range of beauty therapy skills to enable you to be employed in a Beauty salon or progress to Level 2/3.

You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake visits to beauty exhibitions and attend additional training courses (fees will be incurred). This course may include 9.00 am starts a late night and some Saturdays

Who the course is for

This course is ideal for school leavers who want work towards a career in beauty therapy.

Learners must be prepared to fully partake in all practical lessons - this will involve removing make-up and having feet exposed.

Course Content

Course Content - You will study a variety of units which will include the following: -
C&G L1 Certificate in Beauty Therapy
• Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector
• Presenting a Professional Image in a Salon
• Health and Safety
• Working with others in the Beauty Sector
• Skin Care
• Hand Care
• Nail Art
• Make-up
• Creating an Image
• Skills in Basic Pedicure


Learning Methods

 You will learn through a combination of interactive classroom teaching, working in small groups and practical work. During your studies you will work in our modern beauty salons using the latest in beauty therapy equipment.

Students with disabilities will be assessed on an individual basis to confirm their suitability for the course

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through practical observation, oral questions, written projects, discussions, presentations.
Please be aware that due to awarding body regulations your finished portfolio must be made available, if requested, up to three years after your course has been completed.

Progression Opportunities

There will be a wide range of progression courses depending on the route taken such as the Level 2 Beauty Diploma, Level 2 in Fashion Make-up or the Level 2 Creative Cutting. Other courses will also be available including: Gel Application, Acrylic Application, St.Tropez Tanning, Lash Lift and Brow training at an extra cost.

Career Opportunities

Previous students from this course have progressed to jobs in a Beauty Salon, Nail Technician or working as an in-store Beauty Consultant or mobile Beauty Therapist.

It is advisable to progress to a level 2 Beauty or Hair course to secure employment.


Entry Requirements

GCSE grade 2 in both English and maths. 

• Excellent attendance is required (100% expected, minimum 90% acceptable)
• If English is not your first language you will need an English language test  score of 5.5 (A score of 5.5 in speaking, listening,reading and 5.5 in Writing)
• Full dexterity, good eyesight (with or without contact lens, glasses or other)

Additional requirements
Due to awarding body requirements students must:
• Remove ALL visible jewellery and facial piercings
• Have short un-varnished nails
• No gel varnish or overlays
• Wear full standard college uniform
• Wear flat black fully enclosed shoes- NO trainers or boots
• Purchase full kit required for the course (you may qualify for funding to assist purchase)
• Good standard of personal hygiene (consider close contact with clients)
• You need to provide paying models for practical assessments
• There will be 9.00am starts and possible late nights
• External Quality Assurer may request to see learners and or work outside normal class hours

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
