Newcastle College Lecturer Hayley McKeswick has made the shortlist for a WorldSkills UK Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Heroes Award.

Hayley, a Supported Learning Lecturer, has been nominated for the Inclusive Skills Development Award, sponsored by FE Week.

These awards were established in 2020 to honour individuals and organisations that promote and embed innovative practices, projects, and initiatives, making a positive impact on students, workplaces, and the wider skills system.

The Inclusive Skills Development Award is designed to recognise those who deliver inclusive curriculum activity that advances skills development.

Hayley said: “I am just one member of a team that goes above and beyond to support students in developing their skills and in becoming prepared for adulthood as well-rounded citizens. Encouraging our students with SEN needs to enter the WorldSkills competitions is important as they can raise their profile and help them within their chosen vocational sector.”

Ben Blackledge, CEO, WorldSkills UK said: “Congratulations to all the finalists. These awards are an amazing opportunity to highlight and celebrate the difference being made by organisations and individuals across the skills sector.”

The 2024 WorldSkills EDI Awards will take place at the at the Houses of Parliament in London on Thursday 7 March.
