Childcare students from Newcastle College are celebrating a third-place win at their first-ever inter-college competition.

Tegan Jessen and Luke Barton, both studying for a Level 2 qualification in Early Years, were selected to attend Tyne Met College on Tuesday 19 March to showcase their skills against students from other colleges across the region.

During the competition, students were asked to plan and create an engaging, interactive resource to support a child aged 3-4 with their literacy, language and communication development.

Amy Malpass, Childcare Lecturer at Newcastle College said: “This is the first time any of our Childcare students have taken part in a competition like this and they were fantastic. Tegan and Luke worked so well together, showed brilliant communication and knowledge of child development.

“I was so proud of how they performed and how they represented our college! To place third is just the icing on the cake. They thoroughly deserved it after all their hard work.”
