Hi, I'm Callum and I am currently studying my PGCE in Young People and Adults.

This is my second year during placement at Newcastle College University Centre, and I have also been able to receive the opportunity to work full-time at my dream position within NCG.

Why did you decide to go into teaching?

Teaching has always been on my mind since high school. Teaching to me has always looked like a role that requires hard work, but one which is rewarding and I have discovered this to be true! I enjoy a challenge as much as a hard task, I seem to get a thrill off this.

What are your ambitions and how is this course helping you get there?

My ambitions are to work in a college, teaching website development. This has been my goal for a few years. The course has been able to offer me the chance to do placement within IT levels 2/3 where I am able to teach my passion (website development).

How do you feel when students achieve their grades? How does it feel to make an impact in their education?

The feelings of seeing my students achieve their grades is outstanding, there is not a better feeling in the world than seeing your students achieve the incredible. Its crazy to think how my teaching is able to provide them with a degree.

How has the bursary helped you achieve your goals?

The bursary has helped me financially by allowing me to study and complete a placement full time. This has allowed me to focus my full potential on studying to become a better teacher, as well as gain extra experience.

What are your favourite things about the course?

The amount of support is outstanding. Overall I have received a staggering amount towards studying, ways to teach, and many other things such as guidance from feedback.

What support have you received throughout your studies?

My mentors have provided me feedback which has allowed me to analyse my teaching styles in different scenarios, both in face-to-face and online deliveries.

What/who inspires you to succeed?

My goals definitely inspire me to succeed, I have a set target/challenge and that is what gets me to give my all!

What would you say to someone thinking about a career in teaching?

Go for it, you will enjoy the role of being in control and guiding your learners.
