Art and Design - Level 1

• 3 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and maths

If you achieve:

• GCSE grade 3 in English or maths

AND

• GCSE grade 1 in English or maths

AND

• Two other GCSEs at grade 2 or above

You can still study this course, but you will need to complete Entry Level 3 and Level 1 Functional Skills alongside it.

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Level 1 BTEC Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies (Art and Design)

• Sketchbooks and Practical Work
• Portfolio Work
• Written Work

Our students engage with creative industries throughout the year. You will be asked to work on projects outside of Newcastle College to provide you with real world experience of what it means to be a creative.

We will also help you to develop your interview and CV writing skills. We have a dedicated work experience team who can help you find and organise work placement opportunities.

If you do not hold English and/or maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above you will be supported with dedicated lessons to help you achieve English and maths qualifications. 

In Art and Design you will learn how to use ratios in painting and also scale, shape and space in design. You will also build on your English skills by developing an annotated creative portfolio and communicating with your team in group work.

You can progress onto a Level 2 Art and Design or Level 2 Digital Design and Media qualification.
