Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice
Laila Batcheldor
17-year-old Laila Batcheldor is currently undertaking a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship at Gosforth Salon, Gallery 108. Laila applied for the apprenticeship as soon as she completed her Level 2 Hairdressing qualification at Newcastle College last year.
Why did you choose Newcastle College?
I liked the facilities for the hairdressing courses, including the working salon and the styling heads in the classrooms. I also liked the idea of clients coming in for us to practice our skills on. I enrolled on a Level 2 course to learn the basics and then went for an apprenticeship as soon as I could, as I learn better when I’m doing practical work.
Do you feel supported at Newcastle College?
I received a lot of support and advice from my Level 2 tutor when I was applying for my apprenticeship. I also receive a lot of support from my employer.
How do you feel that your apprenticeship is benefitting you?
My apprenticeship is giving me more experience of working on the salon floor. I feel like I’m well on my way to becoming a fully qualified hairdresser who is fully confident in all aspects of hair.
