Starting college is an exciting new time, full of lots of new opportunities that will help you to take your first step into the future. It’s a big change from school and we know it can be quite a daunting time, but don’t worry - here at Newcastle College we’ve put together our top tips for getting off to the best start possible.
So, here’s our top tips for starting college:
Get Organised
Whether this be organising your transport to make it to college on time, staying on top of your projects and coursework, attending lessons with the necessary equipment, being organised is key to adapting to college life. A useful way to do this could be to keep a diary or a planner so you can keep track of your work.
Places to Eat
Lunch is the perfect time to socialise, so grab a bite in one of the colleges many eateries or venture out to the nearby city centre where there is a huge choice of places to eat. Around campus, we have canteens in our Parsons and Trevelyan buildings, as well as all of our satellite sites, which offer a range of made to order hot and cold foods.
On our Rye Hill campus, the student-run Bistro is based on the ground floor of the Lifestyle Academy, offering a selection of hot and cold meals, sandwiches and snacks, plus made-to-order pizza and pasta. If it’s a special occasion (or maybe you’re just feeling fancy) why not go to our Chef’s Academy for a treat? If you just want to grab a coffee, don’t worry there’s a Costa serving up your favourites.
Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help
Throughout your time at Newcastle College, you’ll have a Personal Tutor, who’s there to support you through your studies and help with any problems you might face during your time here. You could also join the Student Union, which not only has clubs and societies but can offer advice and support too. Our award-winning Student Support team is ready to provide advice and support to all students, they’re very friendly and here to help so feel free to get in touch with them about any of your queries.
Hard Work Pays Off
You’ll get the most out of your time at Newcastle College if you’re hard working and meet all of your deadlines. The most important thing you can do is make sure you attend all of your lessons, as missed learning time greatly impacts your chances of success.
Remember To Have Fun!
It’s important to work hard on your course, it is also very important that you are enjoying yourself, both in lessons and in your free time. So, spend time to getting to know those on your course and make new friends around campus in many of the available social spaces.
With these top tips we hope that you can have the best start to college possible.
