Students at Newcastle College’s Automotive Academy are getting to grips with some brand-new equipment, thanks to a partnership with global car manufacturer, Nissan.

Automotive giant Nissan has donated a range of parts to the College’s Automotive Academy so students can learn the skills they need on parts from the latest models.

The donation includes two brand-new engines and E V Drive Train for hybrid vehicles, plus four automatic gear boxes, and is just the latest benefit of the Automotive Academy’s strong links with Nissan’s manufacturing site in Sunderland.

Peter Carey, Specialist Automotive Technician at Newcastle College, said: “It is so important that students get the opportunity to work with the latest technology and equipment, to keep them ahead of their peers. I am really grateful to Nissan for providing these parts as it means we can now show our students the difference between the latest hybrid and EV vehicles alongside the traditional petrol and diesel engines of today. It’s employer partnerships such as this that give us the edge in terms of providing our learners with relevant industry experience.”

Automotive student Bartek Krzeminski added: “I think it’s great that we’ve got these new parts to work on. I can talk about it when I go for interviews as it will set me apart from other applicants.”
