A Teaching Learning and Assessment (TLA) Coach from Newcastle College is the latest addition to the judging panel for this year’s WorldSkills UK national finals.

Lindsay Gaskill, TLA Coach and Centre of Excellence Quality Lead at Newcastle College, has been working in education and training for 23 years, with a focus on skills training and employability for the last six years.

Wanting to make even more use of her knowledge and experience, she applied to become a WorldSkills judge earlier this year, with encouragement from current WorldSkills judge Robert Rousseau.

Lindsay passed the test judging stage and was announced as the newest judge for WorldSkills Hair and Beauty in March 2023. She has spent the last few weeks judging all 309 submissions for the Hair and Beauty category of the 2023 WorldSkills UK competition and will be going to one of the regional heats later in May.

Lindsay commented: “Skills competitions are a proven method of upskilling and developing young people from all backgrounds and abilities. I think they’re an excellent opportunity for our students, and I’m thrilled to have been selected as a judge.”
