Construction students at Newcastle College have gained additional certificates in specialised work and modern construction methods in bricklaying thanks to a partnership with The ABC Assessment Centre.

The ABC Assessment Centre is the first training provider to offer training courses accredited by The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in relation to ancillary bricklaying processes such as brick-slip systems, fire barriers and windpost installation. The short courses, primarily aimed at contractors and existing employees in the construction industry, are an invaluable upskilling tool.

Newcastle College’s Bricklaying Programme Leader Tony Gallon said: “Our apprentices and full-time learners have taken part in short industry update courses to give them an extra CITB-accredited qualification. These courses have been delivered by one of our external partners, The ABC Assessment Centre, which delivers employer-led training courses to the construction industry.

“This has been a fantastic experience for our learners who may never have been able to access additional qualifications that showcase their specialist skills and knowledge, something that can really benefit them in their career.”
