This level 3 welding and fabrication course aims to develop your existing skills in welding and fabrication to provide you with an advanced understanding of the knowledge and techniques required.

You will learn within a practical environment and develop your skills in MIG and TIG welding, platework, welding and fabrication principles, health and safety, and engineering principles.

Course Content

The course is a 54 credit diploma with subjects such as:-

  • Engineering Health & Safety
  • Engineering Principles
  • Principles of Fabrication and Welding Technology
  • Welding by manual Metal Arc Process
  • Welding by MIG Process
  • Welding by TIG Process
  • Platework Fabrication
  • Fabrication and erection of structural steelwork
  • Produce drawings using CAD

You will also follow a programme of study to complement this award including functional skills, Maths and English and Experience of Work.

Progression Opportunities

 After completing your Level 3 course, you can progress onto one of our engineering Foundation Degrees in FdEng Renewable Energy Technologies and FdEng Subsea Engineering. Using the skills you’ve learnt you could also aim to secure an apprenticeship or find employment.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE's A-C including Maths & English and a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (Welding & Fabrication). If English is not your first language, you will need an English language test score of 5.0 or above. You will also have to complete the engineering induction programme.

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

If you are aged 18 when beginning the course, it is advised that you talk to our Student Services Team on 0191 200 4000 or by email enquiries@ncl-coll.ac.uk who will be able to explain the options available.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
