Where academic excellence meets elite basketball training

Newcastle Eagles Academy

The Newcastle Eagles Basketball Academy at Newcastle College gives students under the age of 19 the opportunity to combine their studies with top-level basketball training.

Since launching in Spring 2023, the Newcastle College Eagles (the Under-19 Academy of the most successful British basketball team of all time) has grown from two teams to three, with plans to expand further in future academic years.

Taking flight

We launched the Newcastle College Eagles in the 2023/24 academic year, kicking off with two teams in our debut season.

The first team competed in the national College Basketball League (CBL) competition and the second team competed in the local Association of Colleges (AoC) league.

It was a strong start, with the first team finishing in fifth place and the second team becoming regular season champions and making it to the playoff finals.

Flying into the future

For the 2024/25 season, we now have 46 players committed to the programme.

With more players on board, we’ve added a new team competing in the National Basketball League (NBL) Under-18 Men’s division, and the AoC team now makes up the third tier.

Looking ahead to the future, we plan to expand the programme further to see the Newcastle College Eagles fly even higher, including creating a dedicated girls' basketball team!

Working in Partnership

We have worked in partnership with Newcastle Eagles for more than five years, sharing training and learning facilities, providing our students with unique experiences and showcasing the transformative opportunities offered through higher technical education and sport to those across our region. This year we have returned as the main shirt sponsor of the Eagles Men's team as we launch our Eagles Academy and get set to expand our partnership.
