Last week our Hair and Beauty students took Blackpool by storm, with 11 heading down to compete in the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) national finals.
After securing their place in last month's regional competition, they were up against students from right across the country. The finals brought the students together to showcase their skills against a panel of judges.
A huge congratulations to Lola Richardson, who took the silver medal in Theatrical Aging Make-up and to Hannah Green for achieving bronze in Editorial Make-up.
Reflecting on the competition, Hannah said: "Nationals were much bigger than I expected, with participants from all over the UK. I still can’t believe I placed third! I felt incredibly grateful just to have the chance to compete in the finals, especially as it’s my first year doing makeup. To achieve third place in my category makes me feel so proud and honoured. It’s been an amazing opportunity that’s given me valuable experience and knowledge."
Newcastle College's very own Teaching Learning and Assessment Coach Lindsay Gaskill was also presented with the award for the best area in the UK.
Lindsay said: "I'm so proud to work with colleges across the North East. They did themselves and our region proud. The students thoroughly deserved all the medals they achieved, and to be named best overall area is the icing on the cake."
