Local young people are being offered the chance to kick start a career in coaching with Newcastle United.

The Club’s Foundation has developed a partnership with Newcastle College to offer a new training programme for 16-18 year olds who love sport and want a job in sports coaching.

The exclusive talent recruitment programme runs over 25 weeks from September 2014 and offers bespoke training with top coaching staff. The course has been designed with the Foundation to give those on the course the skills to start working in the football industry as soon as they have completed. Therefore, everyone who completes the training is guaranteed an interview with Newcastle United Foundation and could be well on their way to being the next ‘special one’.

The programme will include football training and competitive elements, FA Level 1 Award, Emergency First Aid, Safeguarding Children, personalised BTEC, Level 2 and 3 in Sports Coaching, Sports Development and Sports Fitness; the course will combine study with opportunities to work alongside and be mentored by Newcastle United Foundation coaching staff.

A selection event for the programme will take place at Newcastle United’s training ground this summer. Those interested must have a passion for football and coaching, the energy and enthusiasm to inspire others and at least 4 GCSEs at grade C and above.

Neil Winskill, Football Development Officer at Newcastle United Foundation, said: "This is an incredible opportunity for 24 young people to combine essential studies with hands on learning. There are lots of providers offering sports courses aimed at football performance but none like this.

"This course will give the candidates the element missing from many courses; practical experience. What better way than to learn from the professionals."

Rob Kleiser, Director of the Lifestyle Academy at Newcastle College, said: “This course is a fantastic opportunity for young people with an interest in sport to build a career with a major premiership football club. The College has a long and successful relationship with Newcastle United and working together our aim is to create job opportunities for local people based on our passion for sport and ability to deliver high quality training and skills.”
