Fashion case study

Shay Corney - Diploma Fashion and Textiles

“I have always had an interest in fashion but my school didn’t offer it as an option. When I started to look at my choices I came across some of the Newcastle College fashion students’ display work and that is when I knew, this is where I wanted to study.

Newcastle College has a great reputation for fashion and they offer all the facilities you need to create original pieces. I chose to study the BTEC in Fashion and Textiles because I am a practical person so, the idea of a course where I get to make garments, really appealed to me. The course has helped me to believe in my ability and it has given me confidence to be brave with my creations and try new things.

Financially the College has helped me get access to a bursary and money off my college meals, which has really helped me through my studies. I also get a free bus pass which means it doesn’t cost me any more than it would of if I went to my local college. Fashion is something that I really enjoy and would like to keep studying. When I finish my course I plan to go on to the Foundation Degree here at the College and maybe do a Top-Up Honours Degree.”
