Professional cookery case study

Christine Arrojo Level 3 Professional Cookery

“I always knew that I wanted to study something artistic where I could express myself creatively. After school I wanted a course that was creative but also had good opportunities to find work. That is when I found the professional cookery course at Newcastle College. My tutors have been great during my time at the College.

When I started my course I was very shy, there were moments when I didn’t think I could do it. But with the encouragement and support of the hospitality and catering department, I stayed on track and successfully passed my course.

The training kitchens at the Lifestyle Academy are fantastic and I also really enjoyed cooking in the NECTA competition where I was able to showcase the techniques I have learned – I won a Gold Award for my dessert, a moment I’m really proud of. I loved my work placements as I got to learn from top chefs and it opened my eyes as to what it is really like to work in the real world.”
