Childcare case study

Andrew Molloy - Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education

“I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I left school but I had an affinity with education as lots of my family work in the industry. It was my uncle who suggested I look into options available to work in education and I am so glad I did.

I came to Newcastle College’s open event. At the event I was given all the information about the courses and I really liked the idea of doing a placement so I could get hands on experience rather than always being in a classroom. I feel I learn better when I am doing something rather than someone telling me about it. The tutors have been really helpful. By having their support it has benefitted my work and my overall experience of coming to Newcastle College

As part of the course I have done a number of work placements. I went to a primary school and worked with four and five year olds and then a nursery working with two and three year olds. This has been great as I have experience working with different ages and abilities which I know will only help me following the course.

The course has helped me find a career, one that will help me plan my future and because of the qualification I will obtain from Newcastle College it will give me opportunities to progress. I would love to continue to work in education. I can now see myself becoming a primary school teacher.”
