Students from Newcastle College are through to the national final of a skills competition after showcasing their talent at the regional heats. 

NCG Skills is an inter-college competition for learners and apprentices of colleges that make up NCG. Modelled on WorldSkills, it aims to prepare students for participation in national competitions, strengthening their hands-on experience and providing an opportunity for engagement with employers and peers outside of their classroom. 

The regional heats invite students to compete against their own classmates, putting their skills and knowledge to the test through a series of practical tasks.  

At Newcastle College, students from carpentry, hairdressing, beauty, make-up, hospitality and catering, joinery, painting and decorating and plumbing all took part in their local heats in December.  

Congratulations to all of the winners and runners-up from the Newcastle College regional heats, who will now all progress to the NCG Skills national final:

  • Beauty – Carman Hutchinson and Megan Wilson

  • Painting and Decorating - Jack Shields and Liam Goodfellow 
  • Bricklaying – Charlie Smith and Harvey McCreedy 
  • Hospitality and Catering – Daisy Glasper and Matty Knox 

The NCG Skills national final will be held at Lewisham College in London on Wednesday 7 February 2024, forming part of NCG’s National Apprenticeship Week celebrations.
