Journey by Bus

The following bus services stop close to the College on Westmorland Road and Rye Hill: numbers 1, 30, 31, 32 and 32a.

Journey by Rail

Turn left out of Central Station, following Neville Street and then Westmorland Road.

You will pass Times Square and the Centre for Life on your left. Continue up Westmorland Road, past the Discovery Museum on your right, to the top of the hill where the road bends left.

You will come directly to the Campus on your left hand side.

Journey by Car

From the North or South:

Follow directions to Newcastle.

As you cross the Redheugh Bridge, move into the left hand lane and turn left immediately after you have crossed the bridge.

At the first roundabout turn right into the College car park. Parking is free.

From Newcastle City Centre:

Follow signs to Central Station, or Blaydon A695.

Once past the station, bear left at the traffic lights beside the Centre for Life, go straight on at the next traffic lights and turn right at the next traffic lights into Railway Street.

Follow the road round to the right and then straight on at the Scotswood Road roundabout into the College car park.

Parking is free.

Journey by Metro

Newcastle Central Station is only ten minutes’ walk from Rye Hill Campus.

Turn left out of Central Station, following Neville Street and then Westmorland Road.

You will pass Times Square and the Centre for Life on your left. Continue up Westmorland Road, past the Discovery Museum on your right, to the top of the hill where the road bends left.

You will come directly to the Campus on your left hand side.

Directions to Aviation Academy

Journey by Car

From the North or South:

Take the A1

Take Newcastle Airport turn off.

At the roundabout take the B6918 (Woolsington Road).

Carry straight on down this road (approx. 2 miles) until you see a sign pointing right for AERO CLUB / MAINTENANCE AREA.

Turn right along this road.

There will be NO ENTRY - AUTHORISED PERSONNEL ONLY signs but continue past them along the road until you get to a roundabout.

The Academy is straight over the roundabout. You will see the sign on the side of the hangar.

The visitor’s car park is in between the smaller and larger hangars on your left.

If the visitor’s car park is full please proceed past the Academy and turn right before the security barrier.

Drive down this road towards the Academy Boeing 737 and park in the car park to the right of the aircraft compound.

This is a pay and display car park.

Journey by Metro

Take the Metro to Callerton Parkway.

From the station, cross over the railway line and walk towards the Wheatsheaf Pub.

At the roundabout cross over and you will see a pathway to the left.

Follow the pathway through the freight village to the Academy.

The Academy is the larger of the hangars straight over the roundabout on the left.

You will see the sign on the side of the hangar. The entrance is at the corner of the hangar.

Do not go into the smaller hangar, also marked Aviation Academy.

The closest Metro station is Wallsend.

The Construction Skills Academy is a 20 minute walk.

From the station, walk along Atkinson Terrace, heading east.

After 100 metres turn right onto Station Road, heading south.

After 150 metres turn right onto Buddle Street, heading south.

You’ll pass SEGEDUNUM ROMAN FORT AND BATH HOUSE MUSEUM.

Go to the right around the roundabout, follow the path and then turn off onto Neptune Road, heading south.

Continue straight onto Fisher Street, heading south.

Continue onto White Street, heading south.

Follow the road and then bear left onto Wincomblee Road, heading south.

You will reach your destination 100 metres along Wincombless Road

At Byker West roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A193 - Signposted Wallsend

At Byker East Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A187 - Signposted Walker

At Fossway roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A187

At traffic signals turn right onto the A187

The Energy Academy is a 5 minute walk.

From the station, walk along Atkinson Terrace, heading east.

After 100 metres turn right onto Station Road, heading south.

After 150 metres turn left onto Hadrian Road, heading north.

Walk along Hadrian Road and the Energy Academy will be on your left.

Directions to John Marley Centre

Journey by Bus

To get to West End College by bus from Newcastle Central Station you will need to catch the number 30, 31 or 38 bus.

These buses can be caught on Neville Street, directly outside Central Station.

The bus stop is on the same side of Neville Street as the station and to the left of the main entrance as you face away from it.

The journey takes between 20 and 25 minutes, depending on which bus you catch.

The bus stop for West End College is at the top of Muscott Grove on Whickham View.

West End College is about a minute’s walk from the bus stop and is well signposted.

Journey by Car

From Newcastle Central Station:

To get to West End College by car from Newcastle Central Station you should head west, away from Newcastle city centre, following the signs for the A695 to Blaydon.

This will take you along Scotswood Road.

Follow Scotswood Road until you reach the Scotswood Bridge junction (just after the Vickers factory).

Here you should follow signs for the A6085 (straight on) but only as far as the next roundabout (about 400 metres).

Here you should take the A191 Denton Road and follow this to the next roundabout where you turn right onto the B1311 Whickham View.

Muscott Grove, where West End College is, is the second turning on the right, after the traffic calming zone.

There is a large number of secure parking spaces on site.


From the A1 Western Bypass:

To get to West End College from the A1 Western Bypass, turn off at the A69/A186 junction, taking the A186 exit heading into the west of Newcastle.

At the next roundabout turn right, onto the A191 Denton Road.

Follow this road to the next roundabout, where you turn left onto the B1311 Whickham View.

Muscott Grove is the second turning on the right, after the traffic calming zone.

Keep walking past the Campus along Westmoorland Road.

You will then come to an intersection for Park Road and Westmoorland Road.

Turn left onto Park Road.

Riverside Dene is the large building to your right.

From the North or South:

Follow directions to Newcastle.

Keep walking past the Campus along Westmoorland Road.

Journey by Bus

From Gateshead Interchange take 27 Bus to Felling Metro Station.

From the station, head North onto Mulberry Street, turn left onto Carlisle Street and right onto William Street.

Journey by Car

From Newcastle city centre:

Take the A184 Felling Bypass.

Turn left onto Abbotsford Road.

Turn right onto Stoneygate Lane.

Take the 1st left onto William Street.

From A19:

Take the A184 Felling Bypass.

Turn left onto Carlisle Street.

Take 2nd left onto William Street.

Journey by Metro

The nearest Metro station is Felling a six minute walk from the Rail Academy.

From the station, head North onto Mulberry Street, turn left onto Carlisle Street and right onto William Street.

The nearest Metro station is Byker.

From the station, walk along Corbridge Road, heading west.

After 100 metres continue straight onto Corbridge Street, heading west.

You will reach Raby Street 100 metres along Corbridge Street.

Directions to Sandyford Campus

Journey by Bus

The number 1 (every ten mins), 36, 38 stop on Sandyford Road, next to the Civic Centre.

Many other buses stop on John Dobson Street or Haymarket Bus Station.

Please then follow the directions listed above.

Journey by Rail

If arriving into Newcastle Central Station you can take the Metro to Haymarket Metro Station.

From here please follow the Metro instructions below.

Journey by Car

The Sandyford Building is situated within the campus of Northumbria University.

This is directly opposite Newcastle Civic Centre on Sandyford Road.

Travelling south from the central motorway, exit at the junction marked City Centre, Byker and Heaton.

Turn right at the roundabout, taking your 4th exit.

Keep in the right hand filter lane, turning right at the first set of traffic lights.

Continue ahead and take the first right onto College Street.

To reach the Sandyford Building, continue along the road turning left at the bottom.

Follow the road round past Northumbria’s Students’ Union building, you will eventually reach the Sandyford Building.

Travelling north from the central motorway, exit at the junction marked City Centre, Byker and Heaton.

Turn left at the roundabout, taking your 2nd exit (the first is a bus lane).

Keep in the right hand filter lane, turning right at the first set of traffic lights.

Continue ahead and take the first right onto College Street. To reach the Sandyford Building, continue along the road turning left at the bottom.

Follow the road round past Northumbria’s Students’ Union building, you will eventually reach the Sandyford Building.

Journey by Metro

The closest station is Haymarket Metro.

This is about a 5 minute walk to the Sandyford Building.

From the station, head towards Lloyds TSB bank on the corner.

Turn right onto St Marys Place, walk past the Five Swans pub on the right hand corner and cross over at the traffic lights.

Keep walking straight ahead, crossing the road.

Walk past the car park on your right, you will now be approaching Northumbria University’s campus.

Continue into the quadrangle. You should be able to see the library to your left and the students’ union to your right.

The Sandyford Building is straight ahead. It is the black and grey building with verandas.
