Computing Case Study

Francisco Costa Mendes - Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (Games Development)

“I was born in Portugal but moved here when I was young. I went to school at Churchill Community College, which I enjoyed. When it came to choosing my further education course, I knew I wanted to study Games Development. This wasn’t an option at my school so I researched to see where I could study it. I heard about Newcastle College through friends and adverts and hear good reviews about the computing courses. I came to an open day it was very informative and I was invited to a future student event, which really helped me make my decision to study at Newcastle.

At the future student event, I was able to see all the facilities and meet the tutors. The tutors knew a lot about the industry so I knew it would be a great place to study. I feel college has benefited me as I am learning new things all the time. I think what I have learnt will give me a head start at university. I feel that the course has helped me be more independent and the tutors are great at giving you methods to structure your independent study.

Anyone thinking of coming to college try it out. Don’t let other people discourage you. You make the decision about what you want to do with your life.”
