Newcastle College has teamed up with one of the world’s leading IT solutions providers to offer a new route into the North East’s digital sector.

DXC Technology, which delivers innovative IT and data systems to companies across the globe, is looking to expand its North East team and is working with the College to create a number of apprenticeships.

26 apprentices will embark on a career with DXC in September as part of its Global Project Delivery Organisation. They’ll help deliver digital projects to clients whilst working towards a Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship, or a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.

Although they’ll specialise in their areas, all of the apprentices will experience all areas of the business, gaining skills in business administration, risk management, project management, communications and digital.

Callum Cairns, DXC’s UK and Ireland Apprentice Programme Lead said: “Apprenticeships have always been an important route of employment into DXC and over the past two years we’ve really accelerated our hiring on that front due to the number of benefits apprentices bring to our company.

“We look to our apprentices as the next generation of talent within our company and appreciate the fresh ideas they bring with them. Our apprentices play a large part in driving our culture strategies and also take an important role in ensuring DXC is recognised.

“DXC has recently partnered with Newcastle College as we feel that we can work hand in hand to promote the IT Industry within the North East, as well as providing training and employment to young people in the region.”

Director of Apprenticeships at Newcastle College Lynsey Whitehead added: “We’re really proud to be working in partnership with DXC to deliver these apprenticeships.
“Newcastle College is passionate about helping to create a digital workforce for the North East and at a time when everyone is using innovative technology to stay connected, there is no better time to be offering these exciting opportunities for our region.”

The apprenticeship vacancies are open to anyone over the age of 16, with five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including English and maths.
