A packed out audience heard from a programme of inspirational guests, as they attended Newcastle College’s second TEDx event, held on Friday 6 March.

Organised by a group of degree students, eleven guest speakers explored the topic of human resilience and looked at global issues including love and heartache, overcoming adversity and saving the planet.

Actress and playwright Haley McGee spoke of the journey she took exploring the literal cost of romantic relationships, while comedian Jed Salisbury provided a light-hearted take on the millennial approach to life – laughing in the face of depression, war and global warming.

The full bill of speakers featured academics, comedians and performers, who all inspired the audience with their personal stories of resilience.

Higher Education Research and Projects Manager, Laura Gower, who has been overseeing the team of students during their project said: “Following the success of our first TEDxNewcastleCollege event last year, it was a challenge for our students to put on an even better event.

“I had no doubt their hard work would pay off and it was a fantastic evening. We laughed, cried and learned a lot. I’m really proud of what they have achieved and I can’t wait to attend next year’s event!”
