Apprentices from Newcastle College have been invited to trials for a place on an international roofing team.

Jordan Condren and Brad Hayes, both currently completing a Roofing, Slating and Tiling apprenticeship with local roofing specialists Hodgson Sayers, will compete to win a place on Team UK.

Going up against three other roofing apprentices, Jordan and Brad will be hoping to win a place on the three-man team and compete in the IFD World Championship for Young Roofers, due to take place in Beijing in October 2020.

The invitation from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors comes after Jordan was handed an award for Apprentice Champion of the Year at Newcastle College Apprenticeship Awards 2020 in February and just months after he won a gold medal at WorldSkills UK 2019.

Brad, who scored highly in the regional heats of SkillBuild earlier last year, narrowly missed out on a place in the WorldSkills final but will still have the chance to compete internationally through the trials.

The World Championship for Young Roofers is now in its 32nd year and gives roofers under the age of 28 across the globe the opportunity to showcase their skills and network internationally.

Trials for the UK team selection will be held in March in Hereford and the final three will be announced the following week.

Good luck to Jordan and Brad!
