Discover the joy of working with children on this intensive Early Years Practitioners course.
Learn how to look after children from the ages of 0 - 7 years and specialise in the early years of 0 - 5 years. Find out how to keep them safe, help them to learn through play and support children with additional needs.
Gain real experience with a weekly work placement in a nursery or play group and complete the course with a licence to practice.
Confidence is key and you will interact with everyone from young people to social workers. If you are dedicated, passionate about working with children and are willing to work hard, this could be the right course for you.
- 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English and maths
Before starting this course you will need to have a full DBS clearance.
You will be asked to an interview to make sure this course is right for you.
Once you have accepted your place on the course you will be invited to take part in a two-day summer school, which will include some work experience.
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Level 2 Diploma for Early Years Practitioner.
You will gain a licence to practice which will allow you to be employed as a Level 2 Practitioner, working with children in a supervised role.

Work experience opportunities
Students studying for this Early Years Practitioner course will spend a minimum of 250 hours in a work placement throughout the year, which will include one day a week in a nursery or play group, working with children of different ages.
You will attend guest lectures from nursery managers, charities and health visitors, as well as visits to Newcastle's Law courts.
English and Maths
If you do not hold English and/or maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above you will be supported with dedicated lessons to help you achieve English and maths qualifications.
English and maths will be embedded throughout your course during lessons and practical tasks as it is vital to understand adult to child ratios, data related to child progress assessments and teaching emerging maths and literacy skills.
Where can I progress?
You can progress to Level 3 Early Years Education when you successfully complete this course.
Alternatively, you can be employed in a childcare setting, working in a supervised role within nurseries and daycare centres.
