Add some colour to your future with this Painting and Decorating course, where you will learn health and safety in construction, preparing surfaces and applying paint and papers.
You will be taught by tutors who have years of experience working for themselves in residential homes and commercial buildings.
You will have a number of opportunities to showcase your skills at competitions including SkillBuild, Johnstone’s Trade Challenge and inter-college competitions. Where possible, the College also encourages students to work on charity projects throughout the year.
You will have the opportunity to gain your CSCS card, which allows you to work on a building site.
- GCSE grade 2 in English and maths
- Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths
What will I achieve?
On successful completion of this course you will receive a City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating.

- Erecting and dismantling access equipment and work platform
- Prepare surfaces for decoration
- Applying paint system by brush and roller
- Applying foundation and plain papers
- Producing specialist decorative finishes

Work experience opportunities
Where possible you will have the opportunity to work on charity projects or on work trials.
English and Maths
We make sure all students have the opportunity to enhance their skills and embed maths and English throughout the course. For example mixing ratios of materials and measuring rooms.
Where can I progress?
You can progress onto Level 2 in Painting and decorating or another construction course at Level 1 when you successfully complete this course.
