Do you enjoy learning in a hands-on way? This Carpentry and Joinery course is the perfect introduction to the construction industry and an opportunity to specialise in working with wood.
You will be taught by tutors with years of experience in shopfitting and house building. You will learn core skills in producing basic woodworking joints and using various hand and power tools. Guest lectures and demonstrations are an important part of this course and companies such as Keep Moat and Barrett Homes regularly visit the College to share their industry insight with students.
You will also have the chance to compete in SkillBuild and inter-college competitions.
- GCSE at grade 2 in English and maths
- Functional Skills Level 1 in English and maths
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Level 1 City & Guilds Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery.

English and Maths
Anyone working in construction needs core English and maths skills to be able to calculate, measure and cut to precise angles.
If you do not hold English and/or maths GCSE at grade 4 or above you will be supported with dedicated lessons to help you achieve English and maths qualifications.
Where can I progress?
On successful completion of the course you can progress onto Level 2 Site Carpentry or another construction course at Level 1.
