This brand new counselling course, launched in 2019, is the first step on your higher education journey to become a counsellor. This course provides hands-on, practical learning for those who want to practice counselling or open their own counselling service and is taught by practising counsellors.
The CertHE provides excellent progression opportunities and will enable you to develop an understanding of the principles and practices of communication and counselling approaches. This health and social care course will also allow you to consolidate learning in practical counselling techniques, informed by the theory of counselling practice.
64 UCAS points from a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling.
Applicants to this course will need to attend an interview.
If you are a current Newcastle College student and successfully pass your Level 3 course in an appropriate subject, you will be guaranteed a place on a degree course.

The CertHE in Counselling and Therapeutic Communication is the stepping stone to progress to Level 5, where you will then be able to practice as a Counsellor. This counselling course will provide you with hands-on learning in a simulated environment, mirroring what you will experience in the Counselling profession.
Where can I progress?
After completing CertHE Counselling and Therapeutic Communication, you can progress on to the FdSc Counselling and Therapeutic Communication course. Students will also be able to work in Pastoral Care, Youth Work and Family Support Work.
