Overview

Personal Trainers and Fitness Instructors play an important role helping people realise their full potential, improving not just their strength and endurance, but their self-confidence and determination too.
 

This Sports Fitness and Personal Training course will help you to become a qualified instructor gaining both the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity and Register of Exercise Professionals accreditations.
 

You will undertake live projects, experience working with Newcastle United's and Newcastle Eagles' coaching teams and will get to grips with the fundamentals of nutrition, physical performance, well-being and business.

Who the course is for

This course is ideally suited for learners who aspire to work in the fitness industry, pursue a career in sports therapy/physiotherapy or study sport and exercise science within higher education.

Qualification Gained

This course has two pathways:

Pathway 1 - Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training.

Year 1 - Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Sport and Fitness.

Year 2 - Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training.

Pathway 2 - Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training

Year 1 - Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport and Fitness.

Year 2 - Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training.

Progression Opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course you will be suitable to apply for a range of sports coaching and development degrees, including our own BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Rehabilitation.
 

You would also be suitable to apply for a Level 3 Leisure Duty Manager or Level 3 Community Sport and Health Officer apprenticeship.
 

Career Opportunities

The qualification is aimed at learners who are looking to progress to employment in the sector as a gym instructor  or personal trainer, and whose aspirations may also be to enter higher education.

Please note - following successful completion of year 1 of the programme, you will be a qualified gym instructor. On completion of year 2 of the programme, you will be qualified as a personal trainer.

This programme is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

This course has two pathways:

Pathway 1 - Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training (equivalent to 3-A-levels).

Including:
• 6 GCSEs at grade 4 or above

Pathway 2 - Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training (equivalent to 2-A-levels).

• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above

Including:
• GCSE grade 3 in English or maths
• GCSE grade 4 in English or maths

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
