Got ambitions to work in the military or fire and rescue services? Entry to the Uniformed Public Services is for you!

Taught by tutors who have worked for the RAF, army and police, we will work with you to build a personal development plan to prepare you for those all-important entrance tests.

Your interview skills and fitness levels will improve with regular mock drills and through fun games and activities, we will help you to develop your skills in leadership, teamwork and communication.

To help you gain an employment edge, you will have the chance to gain certificates in First Aid, Mental Health and Fire Safety. You can also take part in social action projects with NCS and NE Youth.

Who the course is for

This course is suited for learners that aspire to join either the military or fire service.

Qualification Gained

In year one, you will complete a Level 3 Certificate for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services.

In year two, you will complete a Level 3 NCFE Diploma (720) for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services.

Progression Opportunities

Our goal is to equip you with the right skills and experiences to stand out at interview and in entrance tests for the Uniformed Public Services. Students of this course have gone on to work for the Royal Marines, British Army, RAF or Fire & Rescue Service.

This course has a maximum of 112 UCAS points, which could also allow you to progress onto Policing or Sports degree.

Career Opportunities

This has been designed to help you on your journey to either the armed forces or fire and rescue service. On successful completion of the programme and subject to passing your chosen organisations medical and vetting checks, you will be ready to embark on a career in a range of public sector related roles.

• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above
• 1 GCSE grade 3 in English or maths
• 1 GCSE grade 4 in English or maths


Please note - fitness development and a willingness to develop communication, leadership and interpersonal skills are essential for this programme.

Course Costs

16 to 18s

Learners are eligible for free tuition if they are aged 16-18 when beginning their studies.

If the course being applied for is a two-year qualification, you will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the remainder of the course.

If the course being applied for is two separate one-year qualifications and you begin studying year one of the course aged 18, you will be required to pay fees for the second year.

If you are aged 18 when beginning the course, it is advised that you talk to our Student Services Team on 0191 200 4000 or by email enquiries@ncl-coll.ac.uk who will be able to explain the options available.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.
