This new innovative programme focusing on professional management allows you to gain a full BA (Hons) degree as well as a professional qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in three years. This programme is offered on a full-time and part-time basis and is aimed specifically at students who are considering a L6 academic qualification, management role and/or career progression within their organisation.

The course involves a high level of personal learning and many assessments are set in the context of the students’ areas of interest. There is potential to: work with professionals from industry who will set live briefs; act as a business consultant and help recommend solutions to the issues the businesses are facing; set up a strong LinkedIn profile to support robust networking opportunities. You will also be expected to carry out independent research and group research to help support you in your studies

As part of our work ready guarantee the BA (Hons) Business Management in Practice degree includes the embedding of the CMI award and certificate. As well as the BA (Hons) Business Management in Practice award you can also complete The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 6 award in Management and Leadership. The CMI level 6 award allows you to gain a 12 month membership with professional recognition as well as improving your management skills.

Learning Methods

You will learn in a variety of ways including work-based learning and e-learning. Learning takes place in classrooms, lecture theatres and IT teaching suites. You will participate in lectures, group work and self-directed study to develop written practical assignments and work-based projects. You will be given opportunities to present group work to your peers, developing skills in public speaking and increasing self-confidence.

Assessment Methods

The assessment methods are designed to facilitate learning and a range of methods will be utilised throughout the programme. These will guide you towards developing the academic skills necessary for studying at final honours degree level and to achieve the learning outcomes of the programme and modules.

Entry Requirements

For both the Full-time and Part-time BA (Hons) Business Management in Practice course at Newcastle College requires you to have at least a relevant foundation degree or equivalent to begin an Honours undergraduate degree programme. Applications for full-time study will be taken via the UCAS website for all full-time courses. Part-time applications can be completed via the Newcastle College website.

For our mature students (21 years and over) recognition of prior learning is the process used to assess and formally recognise learning which has taken place in the past. Examples include: Experiences outside your formal education (eg work experience or any in-house company training) which is referred to as ‘Recognised Prior Learning’. If it is relevant and current, some of this prior learning could count towards a Newcastle College degree, and students could be exempt from studying up to 50% of their modules.

English and Maths requirements are as follows:
• GCSE English language or literature and Maths grade A-C.
• English language test 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any band) Other English language tests may be accepted.

Course Costs

Higher Education courses

Newcastle College’s tuition fee for full-time undergraduate UK and EU students studying a degree starting in 2019 is £9,000 per year. Students can choose to pay their tuition fees upfront or take out a Tuition Fee Loan from the Student Loans Company, which currently defers payment until individuals earn over £25,000 per year after graduation. Students can apply for student finance by registering their details at or alternatively they can apply for student finance on their UCAS application form.
