This innovative programme is aimed at those who are looking to explore the functions of business (finance, human resources, leadership, marketing and management) and gain a broader understanding of how key institutions and national and world markets operate. As part of the course you will be given the opportunity to work on live briefs set by industry and may act as a business consultant recommending solutions to local businesses.

Learning Methods

You will learn through lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work, reflective accounts and research and will devote approximately 12 hours per week to independent study. You will be challenged to develop your presentation and communication skills, producing professional documentation and presentations and using information and communication technology throughout your course.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through research projects, presentations and assignments that focus on all key areas of business.

Previous graduates have secured employment with True Potential, Gateshead Council, Tesco, Santander, NHS and Starbucks. Students have moved into supervisory management positions, as well as roles in marketing, human resources and finance. Many also start their own companies and pursue entrepreneurial ventures alongside work, or as their sole career.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff Points at A-level, BTEC QCF Subsidiary, 90 Credit, National or Extended Diploma; Merits in Level 3 Access to HE Diploma, Advanced Apprenticeship.  Applicants are normally expected to have achieved grade C in GCSE Maths & English Language or the Level 2 equivalents.

Mature students (age 21) will be considered only on the basis of relevant industry experience.

Applicants for whom English Language is not their first language are expected to achieve a minimum IELTS Score of 6.0 or the nationally recognised equivalent

Course Costs

Higher Education courses

Newcastle College’s tuition fee for full-time undergraduate UK and EU students studying a degree starting in 2019 is £9,000 per year. Students can choose to pay their tuition fees upfront or take out a Tuition Fee Loan from the Student Loans Company, which currently defers payment until individuals earn over £25,000 per year after graduation. Students can apply for student finance by registering their details at or alternatively they can apply for student finance on their UCAS application form.
