This exciting course, will allow you to study advanced levels of beauty therapy practices and the supportive theory, to develop your skills and career prospects. This course will allow you to learner advanced techniques such as electrotherapy, body massage and hot stones. These skills will prepare you for industry but also allow you to develop a more in-depth level of ageing and physiology to support you in industry. On level 3 you will also be supported to find a placement, which will allow you to enhance your employability skills and industry awareness.

Who the course is for

Students who have achieved a Level 2 VRQ in Beauty Therapy (or the equivalent). This course is also for anyone who has passion and interest within the interest and developing their careers within the industry. This course is also suitable for those who wish to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Aesthetic Practice and Spa Management.

Course Content

This course will include a mixture of practical and theory based units to allow learners to gain practical skills and underpinning knowledge. To support your learning experience, industry connections/guest speakers will be invited into the sessions, or they may conduct workshops to enrich the learning experience. Units which you will study include;
• Promote and sell products and services to clients.
• Anatomy and Physiology.
• Body massage including pre-blended aromatherapy oils and use of thermogenic stones.
• Facial and body electrotherapy.
• Electrical Epilation

Learning Methods

Lessons will take place in classrooms which are designed to look like industry salons. Lessons will involve a mixture or class discussion, group activities, independent study and practical work, creating a challenging but exciting learning environment. Students will also gain experience completing work experience in the Retreat - the college salon, something which will prepare skills and customer service, ready for the salon/spa environment.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through practical observation, oral questions, written projects, discussions, presentations and external online examinations
Please be aware that due to awarding body regulations your finished portfolio must be made available, if requested, up to three years after your course has been completed.

Progression Opportunities

On achievement of a level 3 qualification, you will be advised and supported on progression opens. We offer a Foundation Degree Award in Aesthetic Practice and Spa Management. This degree will allow you to challenge yourself further, studying practical skills such as chemical peel, microdermabrasion and dermal needling, whilst also learning about fundamental management skills. This course allows learners to excel their career prospects further whilst challenging themselves academically.

Entry Requirements

You must attend an interview with Student Services (external applicants)
• Attend a presentation and interview with course tutor
• Have a Level 2 in Beauty or equivalent qualification. You will also need a reference from your L2 personal tutor which confirms that you have met targets, have good time management, attendance and punctuality, and a positive attitude to your studies. (This qualification could have been achieved part time or full time)
• Excellent attendance is required (100% expected, minimum 90% acceptable)
• If required you must be prepared to study towards Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy or GCSE Mathematics and English.
• If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above
• Full dexterity, good eyesight (with or without contact lens, glasses or other).
• Students with disabilities will be assessed on an individual basis to confirm their suitability for the course.

Course Costs

There will be a kit and uniform which will need to be purchased at the start of the year. This will support studies and must be brought into college every day. Either an epilation or a aromatherapy kit will need to be purchased, depending on which unit is being studies. Kit costs are;

Epilation kit: £105.10 (including delivery)

Aromatherapy kit: £71.50 (including delivery)

Uniform: costs still tbc

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1.
